About

Held every fall as charter leaders return to their campuses, CSDC's annual statewide charter conference, the California Charter Schools Leadership Update, is designed to provide California's charter school movement with the skills and knowledge it will need to thrive during the school year ahead.

To achieve this goal, CSDC places an emphasis on training, offering a variety of extended trainings and workshops. We schedule dozens of high-quality, no "fluff" breakout sessions. We provide ample formal and informal networking opportunities. And we invite thought-provoking contributors to discuss their perspective on the latest, "hot button" charter issues.

Why Attend?

Get CSDC’s critical updates and exclusive insights

You’ll hear the latest from our team of experts who stay busy throughout the year tracking the latest developments in charter school funding, policy, accountability (LCAP), governance, operations, and more. At the conference, you’ll receive their latest strategic advice–the kind of guidance that reflects both our expertise as the state’s leading technical experts, but also our understanding of how things actually work at your charter school.

Select from dozens of high-quality breakout sessions

Including not only those sessions presented by CSDC staff but also those presented by the many deeply knowledgeable charter school leaders whom we invite to the event so that they can share their unique perspectives.

Connect and celebrate with the people that make the movement

Of course, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with California charter school leaders, including several structured opportunities (such as the meetings of affinity groups), as well as an evening cocktail reception. You’ll also have the opportunity to shop and compare amongst the nearly 100 solution providers that will join the event. And you’ll celebrate a historic milestone as this year’s conference marks 30 years of California charter schools.

Who Attends?

Over 1,000 California charter school leaders

This includes titles such as “Principal,” “Executive Director,” “CFO,” “COO,” and more. Last year’s conference in San Diego, CA was our biggest yet, with over 300 schools and 1,000 school leaders registered for the big event. Collectively, these attendees’ schools represent over 220,000 California charter school students and span the entire expanse of the state, from the counties in the way north (Siskiyou, Del Norte) all the way down to those in the very south (Imperial, San Diego).

Charter school governing board members

Many charter schools send their entire governing board to this event. Why? Your board members will not only receive the latest fiscal and policy updates that affect day-to-day operations and management, but they will also have a totally dedicated conference strand and can even obtain certification encouraged–or required–by your authorizer.

Nearly 100 solution providers

Take what you can glean from the fiscal and operations sessions and pose informed questions to the nearly 100 exhibitors that will join the event to share how they can best support your school. Our exhibitors span a wide range of services and sectors–including
