Prepare for a Smoother Renewal: Register for CSDC's February 28 Renewal Webinar

A little less than two weeks remain until CSDC’s February 28 webinar, an Overview of the Charter Renewal Process & Renewal Data Fundamentals.

Join CSDC’s Accountability & Development Specialist, Susanne Coie, as she presents the charter renewal process with a focus on understanding the complex student data components.

For renewals this year or to be well-positioned in later years, the February 28 webinar is a great place to start. Attendees will gain a sense of data points to target and monitor throughout the charter term for a smoother renewal.

This webinar will help you:

  • Understand the basics of renewal petition drafting, timelines, process, and appeals
  • Be aware of new denial grounds related to finance, governance, and dis-enrollment of lower scoring students
  • Review the renewal criteria for each of three “performance tiers”: streamlined/5-7 year renewal (“high”), default/5-year renewal (“middle”), denial/2-year renewal (“low”), and the criteria for Dashboard Alternative Status ScFor schools (DASS)
  • Learn why many schools operate on the margin of the streamlined (“high”) or the denial/2-year (“low”) tiers–or even both of those margins
  • Consider how to align school planning with renewal data provisions and “verified data”
  • Most importantly, sometimes, understand how to communicate effectively and build support for your school

CSDC Members may want to request and review their schools’ custom CSDC 2023 Renewal Strategy Worksheet in conjunction with this webinar. These worksheets come with detailed analysis on:

  • Key data points used in charter renewal categories
  • How each year counts toward renewal categories: streamlined (“high”), default (“middle”), and denial/two-year renewal (“low”)
  • Historical data to inform projections and targets
  • Whether the school is in differentiated assistance
  • Any participation rate penalties and calculations of 2023 ELA, Math, and ELPI Status without penalties
  • Comparative demographics and chronic absenteeism data, for context
  • California Growth Model data, relative to state averages, from 2019 (the year that the California Department of Education posted this data set), to provide a fuller picture of achievement

Please allow time for processing. CSDC staff are available for a 30-minute members-only consultation to understand the worksheets and their implications for schools and to help identify prioritized strategy for focus towards improvement.
