Have You Heard of California’s Form 700?

Are you required by law or your school’s conflict of interest code to fill it out?

In the aftermath of Watergate (1974), California voters passed the Political Reform Act and the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) was created to administer and enforce this landmark ethics law.

As part of its enforcement, the FPPC required specific individuals - like elected state officers, judges, city council, and school board members, among others, to fill out a disclosure form called Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700).  In 2019, SB 126 added charter school board members to this mandatory disclosure list.

Charter school board members and other individuals (like a charter school’s lead administrator) named in the school’s conflict of interest code are required to fill out this multi-page form every year. The filing deadline for this annual public document is April 1, 2023. To help those who must file, CSDC will host a live webinar, Completing the Form 700, on February 22, 2023 at 2:00PM.

This webinar will be hosted by Caitlin O’Halloran, CSDC’s Governance and Policy Specialist. Caitlin is CSDC’s main point of contact for matters relating to governance, advocacy, and policy. Caitlin co-founded Dixon Montessori Charter School and previously served on the Dixon Unified School District Governing Board for nearly a decade.

Join Caitlin as she explains the Form 700  disclosure requirements, clarifies the conflict of interest code designated positions, and walks through the document page-by-page.

This webinar is available to all CSDC Member Schools and Authorizers at no additional cost. It is one of the many ways in which CSDC supports charter schools through its CSDC Membership program.

Other benefits of CSDC Membership include access to Online Governance Academy, a series of on-demand learning modules designed to provide California charter school governing board members with the information they need to effectively oversee their schools.

CSDC Members also have access to Board Bulletins, which are published six times of year and include topics of interest to California charter school governing board members.

We look forward to seeing you on February 22!
