CSDC: Allying with California Charter Schools in 2018 and 2019

Published December 21, 2018 08:15

Dear Charter School Community Members,

2018 was a full year for all of us, across the state and national charter school communities, and even in our small but robust office. Throughout the year, CSDC strengthened its work with powerful political allies and opponents in an effort to ensure that charter schools provide independent, free, high quality education to California’s students. CSDC’s incomparable legislative and technical support proved time and again its worth for charter schools that are navigating the every day waters of California’s regulations and systems. Empowering schools and giving them accurate, relevant tools has been critical every year. 2018 was no exception, posing its own significant challenges: the fires across the state impacted a number of charter schools and we’ve seen the resilience and the strength of the community coming together as demonstrative of the powerful nature of charter schools.

Charter School Advocates

It’s no question for us that 2019 will present us with a new and complex political landscape. We will encounter more adversarial forces that aim to undercut charter schools and, as with every year, CSDC intends to play a leading role in advocating for and establishing well thought-out charter schools legislation in California. Our team is committed to providing strong advocacy, leadership training, and technical support to California’s charter schools and to constantly exploring what other resources or services we can provide to empower charter leaders. For over 25 years, we’ve been part of critical, and impactful, statewide budget negotiations, helped schools apply for and renew their charters, and have helped to devise some of the underpinnings of our current accountability infrastructure. We will continue to do so in 2019.

If you’re not a CSDC member yet, we urge you to consider joining us in 2019, allying together for the advancement of all California charter schools. If you are a member, we thank you for your support and trust in our expertise and hard work.

The CSDC Team
