Charter Currents: Amendments Confirm Destructive Impact of AB 1505 and AB 1507 on Charter Schools

During the holiday weekend, the California Legislature posted extensive amendments to AB 1505 (O’Donnell, D-Long Beach) along with a few amendments to AB 1507. CSDC staff carefully reviewed them and we regret we must report that the amendments to AB 1505 are as bad as we had originally feared, and AB 1507 remains a threat to schools operating outside of district boundaries. As such, CSDC continues to oppose both bills on principle, though we anticipate that both will be enacted, given the California Charter School Association’s neutral stance on AB 1505 and seemingly tepid opposition to AB 1507.
